Mark Swallow
I was born in Barnsley in 1974. I have been painting for over 17 years as well as having obtained a law degree and enjoyed a career as a solicitor.
I believe that art has a power. With that power comes a responsibility, not just to shock, challenge or please, but to inspire “if a work does not grab the viewer or make them think, then how does it differ from wallpaper?”
My work strives for beauty through strong colours and balanced composition. However the works are much more than just visually appealing. My recent series “Space” explores mankind’s place in the universe. Through this I examine the relationship between science and spirituality and the role that art has to play in mediating between them. (see “Space” for more detail).
The series “5%” looks at the cutting edge of physics and presents us with stunning questions; if science can only account for 5% of existence, what is the other 95%? As science only has a tenuous understanding of that 5% can we state with certainty that we know anything? (see 5% for more detail)
