My very latest works explore the ability of science to explain our existence. What is our universe made of? Society as a whole seems to relax in the assumption that if required, science could answer those questions we cannot. In fact, no-one can. Humanity has only been able to “see” 5% of existence. Imagine the universe as a clear glass paperweight. Visible matter, the stars planets and everything we can see are ribbons of coloured glass running through it. All we can see are the coloured ribbons, but we know the rest is there. Without it the ribbons could not exist. Visible matter is suspended in something that science cannot account for. If 95% of everything is unknown, who is to say that the same is not true here on earth. Is it not possible that we are missing a large part of what makes us and everything around us? If this is true, how can we say with any certainty that we know anything.

Is it any wonder that science struggles to explain so much, when the mansion of knowledge is built on such weak foundations.

This series of works highlight just 5% of the canvas in differing ways. By confronting the viewer with an accurate representation of the limits of our knowledge, their aim is twofold: to shake our confidence in science and to invite the viewer to fill the void with their imagination or instinct.
