Gallery - Structure

My earliest works were born of an urge to paint and were a release of creative energy that took shape on the canvas instinctively. At first they sought only to be beautiful but developed into considering how beauty and in particular, balance, can lift the soul of a viewer.

They evolved into passionate responses to the difficulties of considering mass. From a scientific or spiritual viewpoint, nothing can ever be said to be solid, there are simply differing degrees of density. Mountain ranges or cityscapes become a series of bold strokes in strong colours, evoking strength and permanence but at the same time transparent and melting away. The contradiction between solidity and fluidity within one mass lies at the heart of all existence
